“Until When: Unraveling the story behind Tresa Leigh’s beguiling teenage recordings”
I had the chance to speak with Teresa Laxamana for a feature in the Spring 2024 issue of Maggot Brain.
Using the stage name Tresa Leigh, a teenaged Teresa recorded two 45s of heartbroken garage-folk in the early 1970s before leaving the music industry behind. Some 50 years later, Melbourne label Efficient Space gathered those songs — including the haunted “Until Then” — on a mini-anthology.
It was a privilege to talk with Teresa about the development and recording of those songs, and about her life afterward.
The 3,000-word feature article appeared in the Spring 2024 issue of Maggot Brain, a quarterly magazine published by Third Man and edited by Mike McGonigal. Maggot Brain is available in print form only. Copies of the Spring 2024 issue can be purchased here, and a low-res PDF of the Tresa Leigh article can be reviewed here.
